I recently got to teach during Animal Camp at the San Francisco SPCA and I always made sure to read each class one of my favourite children’s books: The Whale and The Snail. It’s a lovely tale about a whale taking a snail around the world. There is a moment where the snail, looking at all of the majestic nature around her says, “I feel so small.” I always would ask the kids if they had a moment like that where they were surrounded by such majestic nature that they felt so small. Lots of little hands would swing up and the kids would all share tales- usually about Yosemite National Park. You see, with the right traffic conditions it is a mere 3 hours away from San Francisco and it is just as gorgeous and majestic as people say. We loved our weekend there!

Vegan and Gluten Free Brunch in Vienna
Not only did we recently sign a lease on a Prius (because – San Francisco – I told the dealer that we were conditioned to lean towards Prius since they are EVERYWHERE), but I am also writing this blog on a new to me 12” Macbook (thanks Martin!). I know what you’re thinking, “how BASIC.”
You’re right. It’s all terribly basic. The Prius, the Macbook, and most of all that this is a post about brunch! But hey fellow avocado toast loving millennials- if you can’t beat em join em I say! So here comes a super BASIC post about the awesome vegan and gluten free brunches I recently had in Vienna. ?
Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Vegan & Gluten Free review
Friends,
It has been a long week which started off with a spontaneous flight to Austria due to a family emergency. Things are looking up on that front and in order to maintain some normalcy, I am back with another Disney dining review! This time Tusker House- it almost needs no introduction being such a staple in the vegan disney world. Yes, it has characters and they’re fun; Yes, it has a super fun immersive atmosphere and that’s fun; but none of that is why we go. We go because the food is crazy delicious! Are you like me and can happily eat your weight in plantains? Well then you must make a reservation at Tusker House!

The best gluten free & vegan counter service meals in Walt Disney World
Have you ever had a moment where you thought to yourself, “I can’t look at another portion of fries again?” No. That’s madness am I right? Who could ever get sick of french fries? They are golden salty greasy sticks of deliciousness and such a treat! Alas, if you eat them almost everyday such a thought does eventually come. On our first trip to Disney World two years ago we thought to ourselves exactly this! It was hard to find gluten free and vegetarian food. We had such crappy meals guys. Fortunately our lesson has been learned, more research has been done mostly with the help of the Facebook group: veg disney, and this trip we ate like royalty! I am happy to report that we did not eat french fries at any meal!

Disney World Dining Reviews – Jungle Skipper Canteen
I LOVE the Jungle Cruise as much as the next person. It’s so fun to hop on those boats and listen to all the corny and sarcastic jokes from the skippers. The first time we ever went on it in Disneyland we didn’t know this was the spiel and felt so awkward! Like, “oh! Is he allowed to say that?! Will this person get fired???” I laugh so much when I think of that now. ? Serious Disney fans will also appreciate the nostalgia of a ride that was so close to Walt Disney’s heart. So of course when I heard there is a new restaurant in the Magic Kingdom based on that ride with a vegan item on the menu. Well, it was the first reservation I made when we started planning our Walt Disney World vacation! Continue reading “Disney World Dining Reviews – Jungle Skipper Canteen”

German Chocolate Müsli
Homesickness. An ailment that affects all expats at one point or another. My hubby claims to never experience such a condition, yet he orders traditional vegetarian Austrian dishes in every restaurant whenever we are home. Funny, I don’t remember there being an obsession with Käsespätzle before the move?
It was this particular condition that possessed me to hoard an empty box of Müsli in our tiny Dublin apartment. Yes. After I finished the box, I kept it! Partially because, as I sighed to my husband, “it’s the best Müsli I ever had!” and the other part being that I consumed the first half of said Müsli box while frolicking freely under the Vienna sun. I tried to find this delicious Müsli online from a place that would ship to Ireland reasonably but to no avail. So what is a homesick girl to do?
I made it myself.
Heuriger Feuerwehr Wagner – A true Austrian experience! Vegan, Gluten Free, Vegetarian
Heuriger Feuerwehr Wagner knows that I am writing this review as they asked me why I was photographing everything (fair question!). What they don’t know is that last year at Christmas they were put to the ultimate test when they hosted the Christmas party of an international school I worked at. Let me paint the picture for you: about 50 staff members representing over 20 different nationalities and at least 10 had varying food allergies/intolerances. What a nightmare! The common solution is to make one allergy friendly dish and call it a day. Feuerwehr Wagner needed no solution. They have a full allergy friendly menu and we were invited to just pick out what we like!
